SSJC Pace of Play Policy Update: FORWARD PROGRESS  (14 days ago)

The goal of Southern States Junior Classics' Pace of Play Policy is to help players complete rounds in a timely manner which makes the game of golf more enjoyable for everybody. Our pace of play policy is also designed to protect our relationships with our host courses so that we may continue to contest our regional championships on weekends and at the finest venues.

SSJC Pace of Play Requirements

Play ready golf: The player who is ready to play - regardless of previous hole score or distance to green - has the right of way as long as they have a shot clear of all other players and caddies.

Forward progress:

If paired in a four-some, the first two players to hole out should immediately progress to the teeing area of the next hole (with caddie). The first player to hole out will have honors on following tee and may strike their tee shot as soon as they are ready. The third player to hole out will gather the flag and be prepared to place it in hole when final player of the four-some holes out. Final two players will head immediately to teeing area of next hole. All players should continue to verify and record scores after each hole.

In three-some pairings, the first player to hole out should immediately progress to the teeing area of the next hole (with caddie). The first player to hole out will have honors on following tee and may strike their tee shot as soon as they are ready. The second player to hole out will gather the flag and be prepared to place it in hole when final player of the three-some holes out. Final two players will head immediately to teeing area of next hole. All players should continue to verify and record scores after each hole.

In two-some pairings, the first player to hole out will gather the flag and be prepared to place it in hole when final player of the two-some holes out. The two players will head immediately to teeing area of next hole. All players should continue to verify and record scores after each hole.

Caddie Responsibility:

It is the caddie's responsibility to enhance pace of play - not hinder. Caddies should always manage pins, rake bunkers, fill divots, and place equipment in a quick and efficient manor. Caddies should not over coach at any time, but instead aid players in execution of a golf shot within 35 seconds of arrival at their ball.

The second annual Southern States Junior Classic (SSJC) will be contested at 3 outstanding Chattanooga, TN area golf courses on July 14-16, 2017. Our inaugural event in 2016 featured junior golfers who represented 9 states (TN, GA, NC, MS, AL, TX, KY, SC, & VA). There will be 4 boys and 4 girls age divisions for junior golfers ages 7 - 18. Each age division will play 3 competitive tournament rounds at 3 separate golf courses. Caddies are encouraged for all players in all age divisions. Junior Golf Scoreboard publishes the results of our event for junior golf ranking purposes. American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) recognizes our qualifying SSJC age division results for Performance Based Entry (PBE Stars). Hurricane Junior Golf Tour awards all age division champions with exemption into their national championship events. SSJC participants are awarded Tennessee Golf Association Player of the Year points. Aligned with our mission, all intention is to deliver an annual best-in-class event that builds confidence and develops character within participants.

We believe our event is compelling and will stand out among peers. First, the tournament format is unique. The opportunity to play 3 competitive rounds at 3 different venues is both challenging and appealing. Second, in the spirit of our value: Family First, caddies are allowed in all age divisions. A parent, relative, or close family friend has the opportunity to "step inside the ropes" and enjoy walking the fairways as a teammate of their junior golfer. These opportunities are rare in top level junior golf competitions, and we are confident that our SSJC caddie policy is a positive differentiator. Finally, we are laser focused on building memorable experiences. The Southern States Junior Classic is a first class event which strives to become an annual destination for aspiring junior golfers and their families for years to come.
